On Team Delegation, Trust, And Synergy

Table of contents

The biggest piece of advice I have for business owners is simple:

Delegate.

If you’ve found yourself saying “it’s just easier if I do it myself” when talking about properly hiring and training people – you’re shackling your future growth.

If you’ve found yourself saying “no one will be able to do it better than me”, or “your way” or whatever else you tell yourself about why ”no one else can do what you do” – you’re robbing your team of the opportunity to shine.

Good Vibe Squad Marketing has grown like mad and I can pretty easily correlate the expediency of the growth to developing great hiring processes, getting more involved in training, empowering our team to take risks, and delegating everything other than what you are brilliant at.

I’m great at a lot of things. But I’m a rockstar at only a few. That’s all I am focusing on now.

So grateful that McBilly Sy and I have surrounded ourselves with incredible team members.

We’ve doubled our sales team in the last 2 weeks and they’re all A-Players. I can’t wait to see what they do!

And continuing on about delegation and trusting your team:

Over the years I have formed a philosophy that almost everything that goes sideways in a company is the failure of leadership.

If my team messes up, then one of 2 things happened:

  1. I trained poorly
  2. I hired poorly

It’s that simple.

Now, A is more likely than B in most situations – because too many people do “Drive-By Delegation” of just throwing someone into a situation and expecting them to handle it like they have all of the experience of you.

But what happens when you hire correctly and train correctly is a beautiful thing. It’s a team that has heavy synergy and watches each other’s backs towards a shared goal.

Less than 2 months ago we held our first team retreat for our US team of Good Vibe Squad marketing, and everyone hit it off in person even better than they did in the remote world we normally reside in.

By the end of the retreat, there was a shared sense of “I wish we had a few more days here together”.

So grateful that we have attracted such top-tier talent, and that we poured into them to help them develop. They have all become masters of their craft and work together so seamlessly to help our clients and create a wonderful experience.

We’ve also added some killers since this mastermind, excited to meet them at the next one!
